The pupils from Ysgol Bro Idris and students from Coleg Meirion Dwyfor Dolgellau were provided with a tour of the hospital to meet with a range of staff who worked in different departments.
The open day was organised by the hospital’s Outpatient Team who were overwhelmed with the response from their local school and college.
Senior nurse, Anne Thomas, said: “The day was a huge success, all departments were enthusiastic about their own specialities and decorated their rooms with displays, balloons and posters.
“The groups of students were taken round in small groups to each department and finally to the conference room with our recruitment team, Bangor University, NVQ and our Robin volunteers so they could discuss how to achieve their career choices.
“It was fantastic to have the catering team present as well as a large catering course group came from the local college came to find out more about working within catering in the NHS.
“Our main aim was to encourage young people to think about working in rural areas by showing them how much goes on in the hospital.
“It was a fantastic day and I’d like to thank everyone who came and supported the event.”
Gwyn Owain Rowlands, Programme Area Manager: The Arts, Media, Health & Care for Coleg Meirion Dwyfor Dolgellau, added: “We would like to thank the team at Dolgellau Hospital for holding the Open Day.
“The feedback from the students and the staff has been very positive and they enjoyed the experience.
“This is a big help for us as regards to students seeing the range of occupations available in the NHS.”
