My name is Erin Fychan Roberts and I’m a Health Centre Apprentice Administrative Assistant in the Canolfan Goffa Ffestiniog in Blaenau Ffestiniog. I came across this apprenticeship through Facebook whilst studying business in Coleg Menai, and I applied immediately for the vacancy.
The purpose of the apprenticeship is to develop my skills of providing administrative services of a high standard for the health centre. As part of my apprenticeship, I organise appointments for patients as well as send letters out to them in regards to the stop smoking clinic, for example. I also deal with patients over the phone as well as face to face in a kind and courteous manner. Most of the time when I deal with patients, I have to use our electronic system called EMIS. Through this program, I am able to create appointments, create prescriptions, register new patients, update patient details (for example, change of address), accept home visit requests and make note of them for GPs, file medical and clinical reports through EMIS and lastly, inform patients of their blood/urine/INR tests.
I very much enjoy my time here working for the health board and I believe that I’m very lucky to have had this oppurtunity to develop both my professional and administrative skills. I believe that this apprenticeship suits me well as I have an interest in working in health care and it’s local to me.
